Tivat is Montenegro’s holiday airport: a single compact passenger terminal sitting right on the edge of the Bay of Kotor, busiest in summer when seasonal and charter flights pour in from across Europe. Arrival is refreshingly simple — a short walk from the aircraft, passport control, the luggage belts, and you’re out into the arrivals area.

That’s where your driver is standing, holding a sign with your name. Taxi, bus or private transfer from Tivat Airport?

Private transfer. The price is fixed per vehicle — not per person — agreed and paid by card online before you fly. Meet & greet in arrivals, flight tracking, free waiting, and the same price at 3 pm or 3 am. The one option where you know the exact cost before you land.

Airport taxi. There’s a taxi rank outside the terminal, and in shoulder season it works fine — but fares are per ride and depend on the operator, the season and the hour. Agree the price before getting in, or insist on the meter. In August, or late at night with tired kids and luggage, you’re negotiating from the weaker side.

Bus. No buses serve the terminal itself. The nearest stops are on the main coastal road outside the airport, used by local buses running to their own timetable with per-person tickets. Feasible for a solo traveller with a backpack and time; genuinely hard work with suitcases, and no help if your flight is late.

Rental car. The right call if you’re touring the whole country. For a coastal holiday, weigh the summer traffic on the bay road and the fact that Kotor’s and Budva’s old towns are pedestrian — you’ll be parking outside the walls anyway, paying for a car that mostly sits still.

Which destinations does TIV serve best?

Tivat Airport is the natural gateway to the Bay of Kotor and the northern Riviera: Tivat itself, Kotor, and Budva are all inside half an hour, with Herceg Novi about an hour away across the Kamenari–Lepetane ferry (included in that route’s price). Heading far south to Ulcinj? Compare Podgorica Airport — it’s often the shorter drive for the southern coast.
