The drive

Tivat to Ulcinj is the grand tour of the Montenegrin littoral: past Budva’s bays, the islet of Sveti Stefan, the beaches of Petrovac, the port city of Bar, and finally into the olive-covered hills of the deep south. It’s the longest coastal route we drive — just under two hours — and with a private car it becomes a scenic ride rather than a chore. Your driver meets you at arrivals with a name sign and the price is fixed before you fly.

There’s no bus that makes this journey in one go, so the alternative is a chain of connections with luggage in tow — most guests heading for Ulcinj’s kite beaches decide the door-to-door drive pays for itself.

Montenegro’s southernmost town feels different from the rest of the coast — minarets on the skyline, a cliff-top Old Town above a busy fishermen’s bay, and Velika Plaža: twelve uninterrupted kilometres of sand that ends at the Bojana river. Great for kitesurfing, seafood, and long, warm seasons.

The reverse journey — Ulcinj to Tivat Airport — costs the same fixed €149 per car, from the town, Mala Plaža or any camp along Velika Plaža. Old Town guests meet the driver at the nearest drivable point; everywhere else is door to door, with the driver helping load boards and bags.

Because the drive runs the whole coast, departure timing deserves respect: leaving Ulcinj about three and a half to four hours before takeoff — closer to four in July and August — covers the 1 h 45 drive, summer traffic around Budva, and unhurried check-in at Tivat. We still recommend leaving early: in summer the coastal road through Bar and Budva can get very crowded. Our drivers know the alternatives and will take another route when needed — at the same fixed price.
