Arriving at Podgorica Airport (TGD)

Podgorica is Montenegro’s main international gateway — the airport with year-round scheduled service, which is why so many coast-bound travellers land here even in midwinter, when Tivat’s seasonal routes have gone quiet. The airport itself is compact and easy to read: one passenger terminal, a short walk from the aircraft to passport control and the baggage hall, then straight out into arrivals.

Your driver is already in the arrivals hall with a name sign when you emerge. From there it’s directly to the car, and within minutes you’re heading south, bypassing Podgorica city entirely on the road to the coast.

Getting to the coast from TGD: your options

Private transfer. One fixed per-vehicle price, agreed and paid by card online before you fly, tolls included. Door to door to any coastal address, timed to your actual landing, identical price day or night. On the longer TGD runs, the certainty is worth the most — nothing to negotiate after a red-eye.

Airport taxi. A rank operates outside arrivals, but a trip over the mountains to the coast is a serious fare that varies by operator, season and hour — settle the price before you get in. For a 60–115 km journey, “we’ll sort it at the kerb” is not the strongest plan.

Bus. There is no direct bus from the airport to Budva, Kotor or any coastal town. Public transport means a taxi into Podgorica first, an intercity bus over the mountains second, and typically another taxi at the destination — a three-leg relay with luggage that can eat half an arrival day.

Rental car. Sensible if a road trip is the plan. The drive itself is easy — modern road, the four-kilometre Sozina tunnel doing the mountain work — but for a single-resort stay, factor in coast-town parking and a car you may barely touch again until departure.

Podgorica or Tivat — which airport for your resort?

Rule of thumb: TGD wins on flight choice and the southern coast; TIV wins on proximity to the bay. From Podgorica Airport, Petrovac is the nearest beach town at ~45 minutes, Budva is just under an hour, and Ulcinj — Montenegro’s kitesurfing south — about an hour and ten.
