The drive

The road south from Podgorica Airport traces the edge of Skadar Lake — the Balkans’ largest lake, dotted with island monasteries — before crossing to the coast at Bar and continuing into the olive country of the deep south. About an hour and ten minutes in all, ending at your accommodation in Ulcinj or out along Velika Plaža. Fixed price agreed before you fly, driver waiting whenever you land.

This is also the route where a private transfer earns its keep most clearly: there’s no direct public connection, and with board bags or family luggage the door-to-door drive beats any bus-and-taxi relay.

About Ulcinj

Ulcinj is the coast at its most southern and most distinctive: a 2,000-year-old clifftop Old Town, a skyline of minarets, salt pans famous among birdwatchers, and Velika Plaža — twelve kilometres of sand where kitesurfers ride until sunset. The long season and warm shallow water make it a favourite for families and surfers alike.

Pickup is door to door from the town, Mala Plaža, or any camp along Velika Plaža; for Old Town addresses the driver meets you at the closest point cars can reach and helps carry bags down.

For departures, count the 70-minute drive plus check-in and a little slack for summer roadworks around Bar. As a guide, leaving Ulcinj about three hours before takeoff is comfortable, a little earlier in high season. Treat it as guidance rather than a guarantee and pick your pickup time on that basis when you book. We still recommend leaving early: in summer the road through Bar can get very crowded.
