Leaving Petrovac’s twin coves behind, the road tucks through the hills to Sutomore, passes the working port and mediaeval old town of Bar, and then unwinds into the olive-clad south until Ulcinj’s minarets rise ahead. Just under an hour, and the landscape audibly changes register on the way — Riviera resort first, then something looser and more southern.
Small bay, big beach
This is a route about beaches at two scales: Petrovac’s compact, family-sized crescents at one end and the huge, wind-brushed expanse of Velika Plaža at the other. Kitesurfers heading south and families heading north both use it as a one-seat swap between very different weeks of the same holiday.
